ATTENTION, FANS OF IN THE FLESH:

I’m reposting this in your tag because some of you really don’t seem to understand.

are people actually forgetting that Hannibal is constantly on thin ice and has been saved from the chopping block multiple times by a small but dedicated fanbase who desperately votes in all kinds of things in an attempt to keep it alive?

all I’m saying is that people posting “please vote for this OTHER show!!!!” stuff in the Hannibal tag should stop acting like its continued survival is a sure thing and not just as up in the air as several other shows in the poll

NBC is always closer to axing this show than you would believe, so don’t tell us we don’t need a win here and expect us to vote for something else

we’re not asking you guys to vote for Hannibal instead of your show, are we?

and while we’re on the topic: keep it to your own tags instead of clogging Hannibal’s, thanks. it’s a shitty thing to do.

I’m sorry if our fandom has been misinformed on the stability of your fandom but please don’t be rude about it. Reaching out to another fandom for support is not an uncommon thing to do, and while I didn’t make any of those posts I’m sorry if you took offense to them. I’m sure that wasn’t the intent. As for clogging up your tag, I’ve seen your tag and it doesn’t look overly clogged to me, but if you perceive it that way then apologies again.

what’s happening is that a fandom that has been doing everything to keep its constantly-threatened show afloat from the beginning—it only got a second season because a small group discovered the first season on Hulu and worked their asses off to get the word out there—is being asked by another fandom in a similar situation to stop trying to save the first show in favor of the second, when they’re both in the exact same boat

and that is very rude.

I’m sure that ITF really does deserve another season, and I’ll say that to anyone and everyone, but asking the fandom of another show that’s highly at risk to stop doing the same exact thing that your fandom is—that is, trying to keep our favorite show on the air—really sucks. Hannibal fandom is not asking you guys to do that for us. You’re putting us in a really shitty position.

I find it interesting that some ITF fans seem to think ‘Hannibal’ has like a shitload of viewers and a giant budget and all this studio backing and promotion. We lost our shit practically begging for a third season and have no confirmation for anything after that. They’re both two really small fanbases that are struggling to stay afloat.

I’m not saying don’t be loyal to your show or don’t vote for what makes you happy, but you’re way off the mark, friends. We are trying to do the *exact* same thing you are: keeping our show afloat.

men who hear the word feminism and respond with “how about equality instead?” like oh you mean feminism? yeah that’s what I just said thanks for your meaningless input

When someone says “why feminism? Why not equality/humanism/egalitarianism?”
Just say…

Okay, chill.

Did I say anything about defining feminism as anything at all? I’m not talking about definitions. I’m talking about deflecting idiotic questions from uninformed antifeminists attempting “gotcha” moments. Morons who go “hurrrr why aren’t you an equalistttt” don’t care what feminism actually stands for; they just want to find some way to prove to themselves that we aren’t actually for equality.

I study this shit. I’m MAJORING in it. Don’t throw this intro course bullshit at me. I learned it years ago around the time I figured out that some people aren’t worth arguing with.

So just fucking stop. I’m not in the mood.

"How about both?" implies that feminism is NOT about equality. If someone mentions feminism and another person replies with "how about equality?" then saying “why not both” IMPLIES THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS

you’re not the only person who has studied this shit in-depth in an academic setting, so you can throw that “intro course” bullshit right out—and for someone majoring in this you sure let that giant fucking implication go right over your head

you made a poorly-considered and shitty remark in a public forum. don’t expect people not to call you on it because you’re ‘not in the mood’ to follow up on what you said

No, it doesn’t.  It implies that there are different approaches towards dealing with equality. I’m starting to think you and I aren’t talking about the same thing.

I’m talking about when people reference “equalism” or some other variation of egalitarianism or humanism (despite rarely knowing exactly what that is) as alternatives to feminism. I’m not saying that feminism isn’t equality. I KNOW it’s equality. I’m saying that feminism takes a distinct approach tackling the issues because it focuses primarily on the misogynistic forms of oppression that permeate our society. Third wave feminism has obviously branched out due to intersectional studies, but that’s just inclusionary. You have to include ALL women who weren’t represented up until now, and that intersects across lines of oppression, which, since you’ve studied this stuff, I’m assuming you know. I’m not trying to talk down to you. I’m just trying to be a bit more clear on what I’m saying now that I’m at a computer and off the phone. My point is, feminism is about equality and it intersects with other movements focusing on different aspects of oppression. All of them lie under the egalitarian umbrella. That’s my point. You can be an egalitarian or whatever bullshit term antifeminists like to use while also being a feminist because feminism is inherently egalitarian. That’s all I was trying to say. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to deal with idiots bringing up the false dilemma of “either/or” with this shit.

I’m sorry if you thought I was saying as “feminism and equality are completely different things,” because that’s a straight up ignorant phrase and not at all what I was getting at.

if I’m talking about feminism purely as a present concept without specifically discussing the shitty -ist and -phobic tendencies which persist in many areas, or the history of the movement, then I’m talking solely about the concept of 100% intersectional feminism. any other kind of “feminism” will have a qualifier with it; for example, “white-centric ‘feminism’,” or “trans-exclusionary ‘feminism’.”

I do believe at this point that we are each thinking somewhat of different things here, but I still feel I’ve got to assert that I will not couch my language in terms that antifeminists find more palatable, including “egalitarianism,” because I firmly believe (and have seen happen more than once) that doing so can give these “egalitarian” men specifically an out of sorts—because they find that term more comfortable, it doesn’t challenge their positions or require them to critically examine their own views and behavior

I didn’t ever think you believed feminism and equality are different things, don’t worry. rather, it appeared to me as if you were pandering to those who do.

That makes total sense. I was talking more about deflecting conversation. Every time I mention feminism at all it seems some asshole has to chime in with “feminism isn’t equality because if it was it’d be called egalitarianism” because, thanks KSU, you’ve allowed MRAs to form a group on campus, and now we have to deal with their rhetoric.

If I were planning on having a long conversation, I would never use those words. But if I want to end the discussion quickly, I’ll say “you CAN be an egalitarian and a feminist” because honestly they don’t know what to say. Every time I’ve said that I’ve gotten the most satisfyingly stupified stare. It’s delightful and offers a good escape opportunity, or, in my case, a segue back on topic because this happens in all of my sociology classes when I try to comment on something. Every damn time.

okay, now that I know what you mean I can definitely see where you’re coming from. even if it’s not an approach I’d ever take myself, I can’t fault you for wanting to shut those fuckers up!

See? I knew it was a misunderstanding!
You’re too super awesome to be lame. You like all the best stuff. Sorry I was ugly. I got defensive. :c
I’m double glad I didn’t unfollow you because ohmigod house of leaves did you straight up mention house of leaves?!

I’m sorry, too! I jumped to conclusions. I’ve had to deal with so many nasty “egalitarians” lately that I assumed it was more of the same shit. XP

HOUSE OF LEAVES IS MY FAVORITE BOOK LIKE HOLY SHIT, I have read it so many times that my copy is literally falling apart. I’ve had to tape the front cover and a few pages back on…
